How Did
He Do That?: PowerPoint to the Point
Time Frame:
varies - see below
Target Audience: Educators
Anyone
who has seen Bob's presentations knows the power of PowerPoint
presentations in action. One of the most common questions
he gets is "How
did you do that?" Computer based presentations are
rapidly expanding in the EMS market. Many educators (like
Bob) have found it too hard to make the time to take
a formal class in computer presentations. Bob has been
learning PowerPoint one trick at a time, mostly through
trial and error. This class is designed to help the "non-computer
type" to produce cool presentations without the
fat. Common (and easy to learn) tricks like animation,
transitions, graphics, sound and movie clips are presented.
All the fun, none of the bull! Although not an expert,
Bob has used the computer for successful presentations
across the country and is ready to share his experience.
PowerPoint to the Point can be
tailored to your needs.
Show and Tell -
60-90 minutes
Fast Paced, double barrel action. In this session, Bob's
presentation is designed to introduce educators to "what
is possible with PowerPoint." Call it a teaser if you will,
this session is designed to motivate and inspire educators
to jump in with both feet.
How Did He Do That? - 4-hour Pre-conference
session
Designed to go straight
to the point and show participants step by step how to
accomplish the "AV wizardry" used in presentations.
Participants in this session get a nifty handout to help
them after the session is over. Pre-conference Workshop - 8 hour This session has it all and is
designed to allow participants to actually work on presentations
ahead of the conference and put the finishing touches
on during their session, Bob will then Burn CD's on site
and distribute the presentations to all the participants.
Special requests for topics are usually taken and the
workshop will be used to benefit an entire region, or
state's education needs.
Bob communicates
with the participants one month ahead of the conference
and makes assignments to allow the participants to perform
the time consuming, uneventful development musts, while
conserving the "fun
stuff" for the session. Advanced registration is
required for this session.
This session is limited by the
space available as participants need to bring their own
laptop computer. Sites must have ample power cords and
strips available. Internet access via dial up or high
speed (ideal) will make the experience complete.
This workshop does have some prep
time necessary, but it is results driven and will be
worth it.
Each participant
will leave with nifty workshop handout, a shortcut
book, and a virtual CD treasury of sound effects, video
clips, graphics, and background templates for a "fast
start". Risk Taking 101
Time Frame: flexible - 1 to 4 hours
Target Audience: Educators
Develop
eye-opening presentations, not just with PowerPoint, but by using
the talents within you, the speaker. Bob Page calls it "Edutainment" An
animated speaker can be shackled by a ho-hum presentation,
just as a ho-hum speaker can be overshadowed by an overdone
PowerPoint. They just don't fit! Anyone can teach a class,
but does your student want to learn? An excellent teacher
uses all of their hidden talents: dramatic actor, salesman,
standup comedian, artist, self-help guru, motivational
speaker and religious minister. When is a war story not
a war story? Through example, Bob will show you how all
of this is accomplished. Come see this and understand
why a kite rises against the wind and that you can't
discover new oceans unless you have the courage to leave
the shore. Take a risk! Do something spontaneous. Please
NOTE: Boring people and cowards are not allowed in this
session.
DRIST: Dirty Rotten Instructor
Scoundrel Tricks Time Frame: Flexible 1 - 4 hours
Audience: Educators
In this session,
Bob takes you on a tour of some of his most successful
DRISTs to date. A DRIST is something that gets the students
attention while you secretly plant your message. That's
right, you trick them into learning! You may be using
a DRIST now but don't even know it. Do you have a thirst
for the covert? Come to this session and leave with a
devious look on your face. If you don't tell, we won't
either! Bob has had 10 consecutive paramedic classes
with an A overall average and a 100% pass rate on the
National Registry exam.
Making the Most of Your Publisher
Given Resources
Time Frame: Flexible 1-3 hours
Target Audience: Educators
WOW! It is incredible to
see how much technology has moved education into the
future. And we thought we were high tech doing PowerPoint!
All of the major EMS textbook publishers offer a wide
variety of teaching resources, from PowerPoint slides
and CD based patient simulators to online web based support
and even distance learning options with Blackboard. Most
if not all of them are free for adopting their books.
But what are they and how do I use them? Your students
are drooling over this stuff, (most of them were raised
on computers). As an educator, what seems to be over
your head and time consuming is just the opposite. It
can help you to recover valuable classroom time spent
testing and reviewing and most importantly, guide your
students to successful outcomes.
In this session, Bob will demonstrate
many of these resources and as a USER and not a PROGRAMMER,
show you how to work them into your classes.
The T.E.A.M. Approach to
EMS Education
Time Frame: 60 - 75 minutes
Audience: Educators
Based
on the concept of small group dynamics as seen in courses
like PALS and BTLS. This session shows instructors how
to organize a long term course (EMT or Paramedic) into
T.E.A.M. s. (Together Everyone Achieves More) In one training
entity, this concept resulted in 7 consecutive classes
with "A" average
on graduation and a 100% pass rate on state and national
exams.
Easing into the World of
Out of Hospital Thrombolysis
Time Frame: 60-90 minutes
Audience: Educators, Paramedics, Administrators
This session details
the experiences of one EMS Service that has successfully
instituted a productive out of hospital thrombolysis
program. Issues that are discussed include equipment
choices, problems encountered, medical legal aspects,
training and continuing education, competency of staff,
continuous quality improvement, transmission and continuity
of care. This session can be very beneficial to
any service considering adopting a 12 lead program or
thrombolysis in the field.
Critical
Care Paramedics: The Next Step?
Time Frame: 60-75 minutes
Audience: ALS Personnel
This session
explores the role of the CCEMT-P (Critical Care EMT-P)
in the out of hospital arena. As HMO's take over and
regulations get tighter, specialized transport teams
including CCEMT-P's are going to be necessary. The talk
examines the few courses offered in critical care for
paramedics and looks atwhat the future holds for this
new certification.
Putting
the Shoe on the Other Foot: Customer Service for EMS
Professionals
Time Frame: 60-75 minute
General Session
Audience: All
Everyone talks about
the need for improving customer service. Most customer
service talks are by business professionals and sales
people designed to increase profits. This talk takes
the concepts of customer service and applies them to
the Emergency Medical Field. Bob uses healthy doses of
humor and real life EMS examples of customer service
to make the point.
